***Know-It-Alls Tend to Overestimate What They Know
Stupidity Chapter XXX
Joyce Ehrlinger, Kerri Johnson, Matthew Banner, David Dunning, Justin Kruger Why the unskilled are unaware: Further explorations of (absent) self-insight among the incompetent
The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled people make poor decisions and reach erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to recognize their mistakes. The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their ability as above average, much higher than it actually is, while the highly skilled underrate their own abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority. You don't even know enough to realize just how little you know. People tend to hold overly favorable views of their abilities in many social and intellectual domains.
"…people who lack the knowledge or wisdom to perform well are often unaware of this fact. We attribute this lack of awareness to a deficit in metacognitive skill. That is, the same incompetence that leads them to make wrong choices also deprives them of the savvy necessary to recognize competence, be it their own or anyone else’s."

"...Facebook has constructed a modern day People’s Receiver for corporate-financier special interests – with alternatives omitted from the tuning dials, and lacking the technical ability to receive alternative information from outside Facebook’s carefully controlled information space. It is the modern day destruction of independent thought – an information cage many – like the German people during the 1930-40’s may not even realize they’re locked in. Just as people fought hard to up end the Nazi propaganda machine during World War II, people today are and must continue to confront, undermine, and eventually displace Facebook’s monopoly over modern day communication. Unlike Nazi Germany’s People’s Receivers, Facebook doesn’t taint and skew the perception of just 80 million Germans, but includes a user base spread out across the planet and numbering nearly 2 billion..." ***Facebook Zero and the “People’s Receiver”
New: Don't Get Hooked Chapter V
FaceSucker Costs Average American User $1,000/yr "How's that for a headline? It's true, by the way. Here's how the numbers work -- Facebook says that the "average" American user produces about $25/quarter in revenue, or $100/year per-person. Facebook makes nearly all of its revenue from ads. It sells those ads to various product and service producers, whether it's a local bar or an auto manufacturer. In order for such an ad to be worth it to the buyer it must produce more in net profit than it costs. We can therefore determine the average cost to the American consumer who is on Facebook by taking that $100 in "revenue" and dividing it by the net profit margin of the businesses advertising, on average, then adding to it some sort of premium (since doing something that gains nothing is not worth it; ergo, it must return more than mere cost.) The net profit margin has to be guessed at in aggregate, but 10% is probably quite reasonable. Some places (e.g. a grocery store) make far less, some make more, and remember that it's only net margin that matters, not gross. Now ask yourself this: If you're an "average" family you have 2.53 people in it, as of 2016. In that average household there are probably two Facebook accounts, so the average family has a cost of using Facebook of at least $2,000/year. If the average family has $50,000 worth of income (about right) then Zucker****er manages to take about 4% of your gross (pre-tax) family income. If you're poorer on a percentage basis he probably gets even more. The worst part of it is that he gets his cut of it, roughly 10%, without you realizing that you've spent the money. Your auto insurance might be "uprated" without you even knowing it, due to your Facebook activity. Your HOME insurance might also be. Health insurance? Might be. Job offer with a lower salary (or not offered at all)? Quite possibly. But the real 900lb Gorilla is that you are nearly certain to be buying products and services you would not otherwise buy, at all, or for which you could have done better in price and quality absent your presence on Facesucker. This has to be true or Facesucker would be out of business! Folks, you may think $2,000 each and every year is a not-so big amount of money. Anyone who doesn't want that $2,000 is welcome to send it to me; I'll buy rounds of drinks for everyone in my local pub with it until it's gone and the people there will get more value out of it than you will. Further, I remind you that there are some of us who spend exactly zero as a result of Facesucker yet are on the system, and ARPU is an average so for each of us who spend zero someone else spends $2,000 per person instead of $1,000! How can you stop bleeding from the ass like this? DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT AND QUIT BEING STUPID. Oh, this goes for all the other "social media" sites too - - Twatter, Instragram (owned by Facebook), Snap, etc. If you do it and pay attention a few months later you'll notice that your wallet -- and bank account -- are both fatter."

No device that’s connected to the outside world is truly safe
Simon Black: "...Some people hold the idiotic belief that, “If I have nothing to hide, I have nothing to fear.” This is dangerous logic, for so many reasons. Even the use of the word ‘hide’ is ridiculous… as if the fact that I don’t upload photos of my nether regions to Instagram means that I’m “hiding” something. We all keep things private. It’s why we wear clothing, don’t discuss our personal finances in polite company, and worry when our social security number is stolen. They keep moving the line, probing deeper and deeper into our lives and enveloping the nation inside an Orwellian surveillance state. And it doesn’t stop… because we’re in the midst of a complete breakdown of western values."
"...The globalist are betting it all against, Trump, Putin, Le Pen, the people in austerity everywhere and the commoner. If the elites lose, there will be nothing left to hide behind. In the end, anyone for the BBC and that message will be against populism and the common people. Conversely, anyone for the common folk will be as readily identifiable. Fred & EntendanceInvestors Beach...because this place is for Uncolonized Minds.
Stupidity is the greatest destructive force in the history of humankind. It can’t be totally defeated. But there is a lot that we can do to reduce and control its power. The more we understand it, the better we can avoid or prevent its awful effects.
Stupidity Chapter XXXI
New discoveries about the human mind show the limitations of reason ***Why Facts Don’t Change Our Minds***
**************************************** Stupidity is infectious. It spreads from one person to another, one home to another, one community to the other and one country to another. You can't live and work with stupid people and fail to be stupid. I am not trying to get rude or abuse anyone but this article's goal, is to find out the causes of stupidity and its symptoms. We may then find treatment for stupidity. It is always better to treat the causes of a certain disease instead of treating its symptoms. Medical students may give us a helping hand here. Stupidity is behavior that shows lack of thought or good judgment. It is the state or quality of being slow to learn and not clever or intelligent. The stupidity patient is termed as a stupor: a state in which one is unable to think and hear clearly especially because one has drunk to much alcohol, taken drugs or gets a shock. Sometimes the word 'stupid' is used jokingly to say to someone that he or she is not thinking and acting intelligently. What are causes of stupidity then? From my point of view stupidity is to a largest extent caused by ignorance. Ignorance may not be the cause of all diseases because even people with PhDs die of disease related causes but for stupidity, ignorance is the major cause of suffering from stupidity. Ignorance is again lack of knowledge or information about something. Ignorance is not only a symptom of stupidity but another disease as well. There are diseases that cause other diseases. Ignorance is among such diseases. For example AIDS causes other body diseases like diarrhea. A person suffering from ignorance is known as an ignorant person. An ignorant person therefore, can easily be a stupid person. If you do not know about something, you cannot worry about it. Ignorance has a relationship with the word 'ignore' which means not paying attention to something. I am not saying having an ignoring attitude is being ignorant or stupid but when one ignores important and crucial issues in life he or she gives room to ignorance and stupidity. We can prevent ourselves from stupidity by avoiding stupid people and stinking thinking. When one is surrounded by stupid people, he or she becomes stupid in the process. Stinking thinking is when we give a room for bad smelling thoughts in our minds. Bad smelling thoughts may include not thinking at all. When one stops to think, bad smelling thoughts get into the mind. Examples of bad smelling thoughts may include thoughts of defilement, adultery, theft, bribery, murder, witchcraft and other bad thoughts. People suffering from stupidity, do not have time to think. They speak like a tailoring machine. They do not think before they speak. They act before they calculate. They spend without aim. Stupid people do not learn. They have no love and are not kind. The signs and symptoms of stupid people are infinitive. They can't be exhausted. Once you discover the symptoms of stupidity from a person near you, try to run away from the infected person. And if the infected person is a member of your family, friend, workmate or relative, help and find treatment. Stupidity can be treated by taking the stupid person to the counseling clinic or praying for that stupid person. If your patient's conditions persist, seek medical treatment from a professional doctor. Stupidity is not a killer disease. It is a curable disease. -S. Snow ************************************ What are the characteristics of a stupid person? My best definition is: Someone who repeatedly fails at something of considerable importance in the face of multiple others who repeatedly offered sincere and worthy assistance. So, it's a firm resistance to taking clues from the environment that we need to change our modus operandi if we're to get along in the world (and not end up in prison or on the street). Bad decisions is the characteristic of stupid people. Contrary to popular belief, it is not low IQ nor lack of education. There are stupid people with high IQs and advanced degrees. People make bad decisions because they are using emotion rather than reason. The characteristics of emotional decisions are: •Short time horizon. Living in the present and refusing to consider long-term consequences. •Inability to use abstractions when dealing with non-human reality. To the emotional brain, it's not real unless you can see, touch, taste, or smell it. •Excessive reliance on stereotypes when dealing with humans. •Judgements are based on feelings rather than facts. •Decisions are made rapidly based on incomplete information. That's useful when escaping from a saber-toothed tiger, but produces low quality decisions when used all the time. Stupid people are defensive, They know they are stupid, but believe they will be protected so long as others don't find out their secret. That's why they take offense when you point out their mistakes. They are not concerned about the mistake per se, they are worried about their secret being revealed, about looking stupid causing them to lose face. In childhood, everyone chooses whether emotion or reason will be his primary decision process. The choice is influenced by parents and environment, but the individual is responsible for his choice. I estimate 80% choose emotion, 20% choose reason. After the choice is made, it is difficult to change. College comes too late to change it. -R.Wagner

Financial Markets & Stupidity
"...all the pieces are in place for an epic stock market crash, along with a real estate and debt market crash as an added kicker. The arrogant, over-confident thirty year old MBA investment geniuses and their super computer algorithms are sure they are smarter than the next guy and will get out before it’s too late. They think there will be a clear event which will signal it’s time to go. The markets are so overvalued, so dependent on the Fed, and so propped up by massive amounts of leverage, they will topple under their own weight at any moment. Central bankers, Wall Street bankers, politicians, pundits, experts, and the stupid lemmings will be shocked by this truly unexpected development....Men think in a herd like manner and go mad in pursuit of their delusional aspirations of wealth and power. Those who see the irrationality and stupidity of the herd are scorned and ridiculed until they are ultimately proven right. Delusions die hard, but they do die as reality always wins."

"First, a painful, but needed, clarification: Basement crazies. Neocons. Zionists. Israel Lobbyists. Judaics. Jews. Somewhere along this list we bump into the proverbial “elephant in the room”. For some this bumping will happen earlier in the list, for others a little later down the list, but the list will be more or less the same for everybody. Proper etiquette, as least in the West, would want to make us run away from that topic. I won’t. Why? Well, for one thing I am constantly accused of not discussing this elephant. Furthermore, I am afraid that the role this elephant is playing is particularly toxic right now. So let me try to deal with this beast, but first I have to begin with some caveats. Stupidity Chapter XXXIII Karl Denninger: "Jesus, Bezos believes you're a complete, ****ing idiot. Amazon has introduced a "new" Echo device.
Having convinced a number of people to allow them to stick an always on speaker and microphone in their house with the data going to Amazon and whoever else they wish they have now upped the game with both a camera and screen. Gee, that's real nice. A camera and microphone inexorably tied to and controlled by a big company in your house where it can and will transmit both audio and video under their, not your, control. If I see one of these in your house I know for a fact that you're stupid -- and I'm immediately leaving, never to return. If this doesn't result in Amazon blowing up (literally) and actually finds acceptance -- by anyone -- then I know this nation is flat-out beyond stupid and into the realm of being owned by these guys. Oh, and the government. And hackers. PS: If I was a professional thief I could trivially get a target list of people that have these things even if I can't decode the traffic. Think about it for 30 seconds or so and you'll realize how and why and no, there really isn't any reliable way to mitigate that risk either."

Stupidity Chapter XXXIV
“A growing body of research suggests social media is contributing to mental-health problems such as anxiety, depression, sleep deprivation, and body-image issues in young people, who are the heaviest users of social media. And Instagram, which now has 700 million users globally, appears to be the social network having the greatest negative effect, according to a new report by the UK’s Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), an independent charity focused on health education. Only YouTube had a net-positive effect among the respondents. Every other social network came back with a net-negative effect. (In order from least negative to most, they were: Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram.)” So it stands to reason Twitter is the one everybody beats up on...***Instagram is the most harmful social network for your mental health

"The general public doesn’t like hearing what some of us who are Cassandras have to say. Because our message is does not fit in with the choir of propaganda and lies. We are predicting a future for the world which is unpleasant for most people and therefore few believe our predictions. It is part of human nature to believe that the current state of affairs will go on forever. And that is the case whether times are good or bad. In bad times, everyone believes that it will never end.
I remember vividly the 1970s in the UK when it felt like the severe recession was going to be permanent. It is the same now; conventional wisdom says that the economy will continue to grow at a steady pace and so will assets such as stocks and property. "When Amazon boss and billionaire Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post in 2013, he also had an ongoing $600 million contract to provide cloud computing services to the CIA. That meant the Washington Post, which already had a long history of cooperation with the CIA, renewed their wedding vows with the Agency and doubled down on the alliance. By any reasonable standard of journalism, the Post should preface every article about the CIA, or article sourced from the CIA, with a conflict of interest admission: TAKE THIS PIECE WITH A FEW GIANT GRAINS OF SALT, BECAUSE OUR NEWSPAPER IS OWNED BY A MAN WHO HAS A HUGE CONTRACT TO PROVIDE SERVICES TO THE CIA. Now Bezos and his company, Amazon, have bought Whole Foods for $13.7 billion. Whole Foods is the premier retailer of "natural" foods in America. The degree of profiling of Whole Foods customers will increase by a major factor. Amazon/CIA will be able to deploy far more sophisticated algorithms in that regard. It's no secret that many Whole Foods customers show disdain for government policies on agribusiness, health, medicine, and the environment. Well, that demographic is of great interest to the Deep State, for obvious reasons. And the Deep State will now be able to analyze these customers in finer detail. At the same time, the Amazon retail powerhouse will exercise considerable control over the food supply, since it will be selling huge numbers of food products to the public. Amazon will have new relationships with all the farmers Whole Foods has been using as suppliers. Perhaps this disclaimer posted on every Whole Foods item is now in order: KEEP IN MIND THE FACT THAT THE OWNER OF WHOLE FOODS, AMAZON, HAS A VERY TIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CIA. USE YOUR IMAGINATION. Then there is this. The CIA has its own private company, called In-Q-Tel, which was founded in 1999 to pour investment money into tech outfits that could develop new ways to facilitate "data collection," and service other CIA needs. In-Q-Tel, Jeff Bezos, and Amazon are connected. For example, here is a 2012 article from technologyreview.com: "Inside a blocky building in a Vancouver suburb, across the street from a dowdy McDonald's, is a place chilled colder than anywhere in the known universe. Inside that is a computer processor that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and the CIA's investment arm, In-Q-Tel, believe can tap the quirks of quantum mechanics to unleash more computing power than any conventional computer chip. Bezos and In-Q-Tel are in a group of investors who are betting $30 million on this prospect..." Nextgov.com described the deal this way: "Canadian companyD-Wave Systems raised $30 millionto develop quantum computing systems. Bezos Expeditions, the personal investment company of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and CIA venture capital arm In-Q-Tel participated in the latest funding round, the firm announced. The company's quantum computing technology seeks to speed up data-crunching. If successful, the technology could aid automated intelligence gathering and analysis." Yes, automated intelligence gathering and analysis are exactly what outfits like Amazon and the CIA need for profiling the public. Other companies who have purchased products from D-Wave Systems? Goldman Sachs and Lockheed Martin. Let's see: Amazon, CIA, Goldman, Lockheed---a formidable collection of Deep State players. "Buy your food from the purest natural retailer in the world, the CIA. Oops, I mean Amazon. Oops, I mean Whole Foods."
***Buy your food from the CIA: Amazon buys Whole Foods*** (To read about Jon's mega-collection, The Matrix Revealed, click here) H/T Tom from Florida Bottom line:"... This is going to, in retrospect, look like the value destruction on the scale of the AOL/Time-Warner deal ..."

A list of abandoned/forgotten/worthless cryptocoins***here
H/T Tom
"...With the idea of redemption of paper for money taken off the table, where next will people go? What new distortion can be manufactured for fun and profit? The dollar is borrowed into existence. It is backed, but only by debt and that debt is payable only in dollars. There is something there, but it’s circular. The next logical progression is to remove the backing, which is what bitcoin is. To pugnaciously put a chip on one’s shoulder, daring anyone to knock it off — to say that a currency printed into existence, printed ex nihilo out of thin air (albeit at a metered rate and with a maximum limit) is money. Bitcoin is a liability of its issuer, without any asset to balance it. It is a currency believed to be money because there is no asset. Many who rightly attack the dollar as debt-based money, seem happy with bitcoin because the debt backing it is removed. The central banks have taught us well. They have trained us to think of money as the piece of paper which once redeemed for it, the electronic balance which once represented it. So why not experiment with removing all that?
If by now, you are picturing a cargo cult, that’s precisely right. The cargo cults that sprang up on Pacific islands after WWII would go through elaborate motions that they thought would bring the cargo just as they observed the US military do. Of course, they substituted coconut shells tied with vine for headsets, and tiki torches for flashlights. And they had no radios, and no airplanes to call on those radios they didn’t have. They simply had faith that appearances could cause the magic effect they wanted. Bitcoin is carefully designed to appear just like an irredeemable government-issued currency. Which is carefully designed to appear just like a gold-redeemable government-issued currency. Which was carefully designed to appear just like a bank-issued gold-redeemable bank note. Each is a deliberate adulteration, to the final one with bitcoin today..." ***Bad Ideas About Money and Bitcoin

Stupidity Chapter XLVII
The average folks can’t handle the truth. Psychologists call this behavior “information avoidance.” You could also call it intentional ignorance. “It’s a motivated decision to say ‘no’ to learning available but unwanted information,” says Jennifer Howell, a psychologist at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, who studies the phenomenon. “People avoid information if it’s going to make them feel or behave or think in a way they don’t want to” — especially any evidence that could jeopardize their belief in their competence and autonomy or could require taking difficult or prolonged action. After all, information isn’t just bits of data or trivia. It can also be the cause of pleasure or pain. If the information is pleasant, that positive feeling gives you more incentive to pay attention to it. Painful information can push you to ignore it.

Oh, and AWS is only up 1% in terms of sales mix (from 10% last year to 11% this year.) So much for AWS taking over the world. Incidentally the story was that AWS was going to continue to ramp as a percentage of sales and thus it would all be ok. Unfortunately that not only didn't happen fulfillment costs are going up 50% faster than product sales, which is utterly destroying operating margin on a consolidated basis. Ex AWS they would have lost a crazy amount of money and with margin coming in on AWS, even a bit, an effective zero increase in percentage of sales from AWS and fulfillment costs continuing to go up faster than sales the two lines of sales and costs are going to converge and on that trajectory the firm will begin posting ever-larger losses.
That's math folks. Of course nobody cares and you should buy the stock with both hands, on margin, to your maximum right now. (Yes, that's sarcasm; the trailing P/E is now almost 250 and forward P/E is around 120. P/E/G (5 year) is nearly five.) Oh, and of course the company still has a margin of less than a grocery store; about 1.3%. I note that exactly nobody commenting on the report has said one word about any of the above points, and yet the International sales growth collapse is monstrous, never mind that AWS was supposed to continue to advance rapidly to be a much larger piece of the total operation and that simply did not happen; it was only up one percent from last year. Again, the entire premise of Amazon being able to 'dial-a-profit' whenever it wants to is that AWS was going to continue to accelerate as a percentage of the whole. That's because when you have something with a 30% operating margin you can bury quite a lot of negative operating margin in the noise. To keep doing that when physical fulfillment costs keep growing 50% faster than revenues do you had damn well better keep adding to the sales percentage of the 30% margin component as a piece of the whole if you expect to be able to put up any sort of consolidated black number on a forward basis. The fact is that Amazon is not doing so." -Karl Denninger
