Heroes don’t last too long in the markets
"Some of the most brilliant people I’ve met are terrible investors because they’re constantly seeking out ways to explain why things happen the way they do in the markets. Even when you’re right about the way something transpires in the macro picture, you may come to the wrong conclusion about how the markets will react to that event.
When you’re constantly looking for a catalyst to explain every single move in the markets you start to see signals and correlations that just don’t exist. Most of the time we won’t know exactly why the markets moved a certain way until much later. Sometimes even with the benefit of perfect hindsight, investors still can’t agree on the specifics of the cause and effect. But to some the ‘why’ in the markets will always seem easy after the fact, so they keep searching for the answers.
Of course, there will always be focus on the ‘why’ because people crave a good story. And many of the intelligent people who work in the industry are overconfident in their abilities. It becomes an ego thing, which is why so many investors take the markets personally when it goes against them and their chosen catalysts.
Long ago I decided to let go of the ‘why.’ It’s not worth it to constantly try to play the guessing game about how things will work out with every single headline event. There’s no need to add unnecessary stress to an already complex market construct.
Either way, investors have to ask themselves the following question when preparing for the eventual correction in the stock market: Do I want to be right about the reason for the fall or do I want to have a plan in place to deal with the inevitable losses when they occur? The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive, but trying to outguess the markets doesn’t constitute much of a plan when losses start to pile up.
Someone will end up being the hero and stick the landing when all is said and done with this situation. In my experience, heroes don’t last too long in the markets." -Ben Carlson

Germany made €100bn profit on Greek crisis – study
<Far too many people have already used lines like “We Are All Greeks Now” for the words to hold on to much if any meaning by now. But it’s still a very accurate description of what awaits us all. Just not for the same reasons most who used it, did. No, I don’t really want to talk about Greece again. I want to talk about where you live. And about how similar the two will be not too long from now. How Greece is holding up a lesson and a big red flashing warning sign for all of us. Greece is the mold upon which all of our futures will be based. Quite literally. Greece is a test tube baby rat. Greece will never “recover” to our North American and Western European economic levels (if ever they were there). Instead, it’s us who will descend, “uncover” so to speak, to the levels Greece is at today. That is baked into the cake, that is inevitable, and that is therefore what we need to be ready for.
If we wake up in time to this new reality, we may, and that’s still only may, be able to prevent the worst, prevent something akin to the same punitive measures the Troika has unleashed upon Greek society, fully wrecking it in the process, its healthcare system, the safety nets for its most needy. We may find a way to make a smoother transition from here to there if we prepare in time. But that’s the best we can do. As societies, that is; individual fates will vary. Greece will find ways to do better than it does right now, balance things out, but it won’t be through a recovery or a bailout. Athens will -because it must, lest the humanitarian crisis deepens profoundly- find ways to better -fairer- apportion what means are at its disposition, amongst its people. We all have to do the same, wherever we are. Our advantage today is that we can do this from a relatively well-to-do starting point. Our disadvantage is that, unlike the Greeks, we do not understand the reality we’re in. We’re ignorant, we deny, we prefer not to think about it. The Greeks used to be like that, but they no longer have that choice. And we won’t for much longer either. The reason why Greece is where it is today, and why we will all be there tomorrow, we can by now for good reason call ‘deceptively simple’. That is to say, the global banking system that orchestrated the financial crisis refuses to take the losses on its extravagant bets, and it has the political clout to get its way, all the way. That’s all you need to know. The losses are therefore unloaded upon the citizens of our respective nations. But the losses are far too massive for those citizens to bear. They, or rather we, will see our societies stripped of most things, most of the social fabric, that hold them together. Any service that costs money will be cut, progressively, until there’s very little left. It happened in Greece, and it will happen all over the world. Mind you, this is nothing new; third world nations have undergone the same treatment for decades, if not forever. Disaster capitalism wasn’t born yesterday. What’s new is that it now takes place in the supposedly well-off part of the world, in this case the European Union. And it will spread. The successive Greek bailouts that have now ruined the entire nation were “needed” to stem the losses on wagers, derivatives and other, incurred by global banks, French, Dutch, German, Wall Street, the City. The first bailout in 2010 also served the purpose of allowing the banks time to shift away from their exposure to Greek debt. All bailouts, be they directly for banks, or indirectly through a country like Greece and then for the banks, have been set up according to the exact same MO. Greece’s economic reserves just happened to be a bit tighter, and moreover, the country was a convenient lab rat and scarecrow to prevent others from protesting the bailout system too loudly. The whole system of bailouts, be it in Greece or in the US, was never anything else than a transfer of public money to private interests, with the express aim of making good on the lost wagers of that private sector. With impunity, no less. And no, the losses have not disappeared. Nor have they been written down. They have instead been transferred to fester in dark vaults, hidden behind swaps and other derivatives, and on central bank balance sheets. But that won’t last either. The Automatic Earth has warned of the imminent deleveraging and deflation for years, and now everyone is talking about deflation. No worries, guys. As you were. But do please try and understand how this works. There’s all these losses, with no-one prepared to write down any of them (see Germany vs Greece), and the elites behind the banks unwilling to absorb any -the elites instead insist on getting richer even in a depression-. There is only one outcome left then: that you and me will have to become much poorer. They are our losses now. The only way the rich can keep getting richer is if the rest of us keep getting poorer. Economic growth is a thing of the past. Deleveraging has started for real. Huge amounts of zombified ‘money’ are disappearing as we speak.
That leaves the world with a lot less wealth. And still the rich seek to get richer, and they are in charge. The math is simple. As Greece shows us, the rich have no qualms about throwing an entire society off the cliff. A large part of what is now considered wealth is made up of QE and related and inflated stocks, bonds and real estate prices, all of which is zombie wealth. Which can disappear overnight. And if it can, it will.
China stocks and “real” estate and local government debt to shadow banks, emerging markets, commodity currencies (Australia, New Zealand, Canada etc.), if you overlook that whole panorama it’s hard to see how you could possibly think there’ll be some kind of recovery. Where should it come from? Overall debts are much worse, much higher, now, then they were in 2008. We haven’t had a recovery, we’ve had an “uncovery”. And we’re headed for a discovery.
The entire idea, the phantom ghost, of a functioning market died, if you were willing to look, with the advent of central bank intervention. People who work in finance, obviously and for understandable reasons, have never been willing to take that look. They’re just looking to make more money even if things tumble down the mountain in a handbasket. They call it “opportunity”. But they haven’t been actual investors in years. They’ve just helped the banking system put you into deeper doodoo. Greece shows us where that leads. And soon, wherever you live will show that to you too.
Deflation is a bitch. Nicole Foss here at the Automatic Earth has used the phrase “multiple claims to underlying real wealth”, for a long time. It’s like playing musical chairs. And you’re not winning. You never had a chance. The only people who will wind up winning are the rich trying to get richer. The rest of us will soon live like the Greeks, and that’s if we are lucky. There is no other possibility. “Money” is vanishing fast, and the only way it can even seem to return is if central banks do more QE, but that’s a dead in the water policy. Economic growth across the globe, and certainly in the west, is an illusion.
China was the last place that briefly seemed to have any, and they screwed up just like us, ending up with far too much debt to ever repay. There is a point when the can gets so big and heavy, no-one can kick it down any road anymore. Not even one that plunges down a mountain. Something to do with gravity.>

Ben Stein presents a way to look at finances through the opposite end of the telescope. If you do the things he says, then you'll quickly be ruined.
Zweig combines snark and insight to give you a book of Wall Street definitions that you'll want to keep handy. Some of it is hilarious e.g. ◾APOLOGY, [...] on Wall Street, a declaration that other people did something wrong [...] ◾INVESTIGATE, [...] What investors always should, but seldom will, do before they invest. ◾IRRATIONAL, [...] A word you use to describe any investor other than yourself... and more
"A great way to lose money is to not understand yourself and how you're wired cognitively. If you're a deep thinker, you'll lose money sitting at the trading table. If you're a fast thinker, you'll lose money dabbling with investment theses."

<that was YOU>A MUST READ "...You imagine yourselves to be charitable and tolerant when you are nothing of the sort. Even the Nazis’ had table manners and proper etiquette when they weren’t killing people. You think you’re good people because you say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’? You think sitting in that big building on Sunday makes you noble and righteous? The difference between you and a common thief is that the thief has the honesty to commit the crime himself …. while you whine for government to do you’re stealing for you. The difference between you and the street thug is that the thug is open about the violence he commits, while you let others forcibly control your neighbors on your behalf. You advocate theft, harassment, assault and even murder, but accept no responsibility for doing so. You old folks want the government to steal from your kids so you get your monthly check. You parents want all your neighbors to be robbed, to pay for your kids schooling. You all vote for which ever crook promises to steal money from other people to pay for what you want. You demand that those people who engage in behaviors you don’t approve of, be dragged off and locked up but feel no guilt for the countless lives your whims have destroyed. You even call the government thugs ‘your representatives’ and yet you never take responsibility for the evil they commit. You proudly support the troops as they kill whomever the liars in DC tell them to kill and you feel GOOD about it. You call yourselves Christians or Jews or some other religion but the truth is, what you call your religion is empty window dressing. What you truly worship, the God you truly bow to, what you really believe in, is the State. Thou shall not steal, though shall not murder, unless you can do it by way of government then it’s just fine isn’t it? If you call it ‘taxation’ and ‘war’ it stops being a sin right? After all, it was only your God that said you shouldn’t steal and murder, but the State said it was OK. It’s pretty obvious which outranks the other in your minds. Despite all the church’s, synagogues’ and mosques we see around us, this nation has one God and only one God and that God is called Government.
Jesus taught non-violence and told you to love your neighbor but the State encourages you to vote for people who will use the violence of government to butt into every aspect of everyone else’s life. Which do you believe?? To those about to stone a woman who had committed adultery, Jesus said ‘let him who is without sin cast the first stone’ but the State says it’s perfectly fine to lock someone up if they do something which you find distasteful, such as prostitution. Which do you believe? The Christian God says ‘Thou shall not covet’ …. but coveting is the life-blood of the beast that is the State. You were taught to resent, despise, and hate anyone who has what you don’t have, you clamor for the State to tear other people down, steal their property and give it to you, and you call that fairness, the Bible calls it coveting and stealing.
You are not Christians. You are not Jews. You are not Muslims. And you certainly aren’t Atheists. You all have the same God and its name is … Government. You’re all members of the most evil insane destructive cult in history; if there ever was a devil the State is it, and you worship it with all your heart and soul. You pray to it to solve every problem, to satisfy all your needs, to smite your enemies and to shower its blessings upon you. You worship what Nietzsche called ‘the coldest of all cold monsters’ and you hate those of us who don’t. To you the greatest sin is disobeying your God, ‘breaking the law’ you call it. As if anyone could possibly have any moral obligation to obey the arbitrary commands and demands of the corrupt lying delusional megalomaniacs who infest this despicable town. Even your Ministers, Priests and Rabbi’s, most often than not, are traitors to their own religions, teaching that the commands of human authority should supersede adherents to the laws of the Gods they say they believe in. Several years ago I heard one pompous evangelical jack-ass in particular, pontificating on the radio that anyone who disobeys the civil authority be it a King or any other government, is ‘engaging in rebellion against God’. Those were the exact words he used. What if the government is doing something wrong? Well this salesman for Satan opined ‘that is the business of those in government and you are still obligated to obey’.
Everywhere you turn be it the State or the church, the media or the schools, you are taught one thing above all else, the virtue of subjugating yourselves to mortals who claim to have the right to rule you. It is sickening the reverence in which you speak of the liars and thieves whose feet are so firmly planted on your necks. You call the congressmen and the judges ‘Honorable’ and you swoon at the magnificence of the grandiose halls they inhabit, the temples they built to celebrate the domination of mankind. You feel pride at being able to say you once shook a Senators hand, or saw the President in person. Ah, yes! The grand deity himself, his royal highness … the President of the United States of America! You speak the title as if you’re referring to God Almighty. The vocabulary has changed a bit but your mindset is no different from that of the groveling peasants of old, who bowed low faces in the dirt with a feeling of unworthiness and humility when in the presence of whatever narcissist had declared himself to be their rightful lord and master. The truth of the matter back then and today, is that these parasites who call themselves leaders are not superior beings. They’re not great men and women. They’re not honorable. They’re not even average.
The people who earn an honest living — from sophisticated millionaire entrepreneurs to illiterate day laborers doing the most menial tasks you can imagine — those people deserve your respect. Those are people you should treat with courtesy and civility. But, the frauds who claim the right to rule you and demand your subservience and obedience, they deserve only your scorn and contempt. Those who seek so-called high office are the lowest of the low. They may dress better have larger vocabularies and do a better job of planning out and executing their schemes, but they are no better than pickpockets, muggers and car-jackers. In fact they are worse, because they don’t want to rob of just your possessions, they want to rob you of your very humanity, deprive you of your free will by slowly leeching away your ability to think, to judge, to act, reducing you to slaves in both body and mind. And still you persist in calling them leaders. Leaders?? Where is it that you think you are going exactly that would require you to have a leader? If you just live your own life and mind your own damn business, exercising your own talents, pursuing your own dreams striving to be what you believe you should be, what possible use would you have for a leader? Do you ever actually think about the words that you hear, the words that you repeat? You parrot oxymoronic terms such as ‘leader of the free world’. Even pretending for a moment that there’s some huge journey or some giant battle, that everyone in the entire nation is undertaking together that would require a leader … why would you ever think even for a moment, that the crooks that infest this town are the sort of people you should listen to or emulate or follow anywhere? Somewhere within your mostly dormant brains you know full well that politicians are all corrupt liars and thieves, opportunistic con-men, exploiters and fear-mongers. You know all this, and yet you still speak as though you are the ones who are the stupid vicious animals, while the politicians are the great wise role models, teachers and leaders, without whom civilization could not exist.
You think these crooks are the ones that make civilization possible? What belief could be more absurd, yet when they do their pseudo-religion rituals, deciding how to control you this week, you still call it law, and continue to treat their arbitrary demands as if they were moral decrees from the Gods, that no decent person would ever consider disobeying. You have become so thoroughly indoctrinated into the cult of State worship that you are truly shocked when the occasional sane person states the bleeding obvious. The mere fact that the political crooks wrote something down and declared their threats to be law, does not mean that any human being anywhere has the slightest moral obligation to obey. Every moment of every day in every location and every situation, you have a moral obligation to do what YOU deem to be right, not what some delusional bloated windbag says is legal … and that requires you to first determine right and wrong for yourself, a responsibility you spend much time and effort trying to dodge. You proclaim how proud you are to be law-abiding citizens and express your utter contempt for anyone who considers themselves ‘above’ your so-called ‘laws’ … laws that are nothing more than the selfish whims of tyrants and thieves. The word crime once meant ‘an act harmful to another person’, now it means ‘disobedience to anyone of the myriad of arbitrary commands coming from a parasitical criminal class’. To you the word ‘crime’ is merely synonymous with the word ‘sin’; implying that the ones whose commands are being disobeyed must be something akin to Gods, when in truth they are more akin to leeches. The very phrase ‘taking the law into your hands’ perfectly expresses what a sacrilege it is in your eyes for a mere human being to take upon himself the responsibility to judge right from wrong and to act accordingly, instead of doing what you do, unthinkingly obeying whatever capricious commands this cesspool of maggots spews forth. You glorify this criminal class as law-makers, and believe that no one is lower than a law-breaker, someone who would dare disobey the politicians, likewise you speak with pious reverence of law-enforcers, those who forcibly impose the politicians every whim on the rest of us. When the State uses violence you imagine it to be inherently righteous and just, and if anyone resists, they are in your eyes, contemptible low lives, lawless terrorist criminals. Like the lawless terrorist criminals who helped slaves escape the plantation. Like the lawless terrorist criminals who helped Jews escape the killing machine of the Third Reich. Like the lawless terrorist criminals who were crushed to death under the tanks of the Red Chinese government in Tienanmen Square. Like all the lawless terrorist criminals in history who had the courage to disobey the never ending stream of tyrants and oppressors who have called their violence ‘authority’ and ‘law’.
Everything you think you know is backwards, upside down and inside out, but what takes the cake, the height of your insanity, is that fact that you view as violent terrorists, the only people on the planet who oppose the initiation of violence against their fellow man, Anarchists, Voluntaryists and Libertarians. We use violence only to defend ourselves against someone who initiates violence against us. We use it for nothing else. Meanwhile your belief system is completely schizophrenic and self-contradictory. One the one hand you teach the young slaves that violence is never the answer, yet out of the other side of your mouths you advocate that everyone and everything everywhere and at all times be controlled, monitored, taxed and regulated through the force of government. In short, you are teaching your children that the masters may use violence whenever they please, but the slaves should never resist. You indoctrinate your children into a life of unthinking helpless subservience. You are putting the chains around their little necks and fastening the lock tight, and worst of all, you feel good about it. Out of one side of your mouths you condemn the evils of fascism and socialism, and lament the injustices of the regimes of Hitler, Stalin and Mao, while out of the other side of your mouths you preach exactly what they did —- the worship of the collective, the subjugation of every individual to that evil insanity that wears the deceptive label ‘the common good’.
You babble on and on about diversity and open-mindedness then beg your masters to regulate and control every aspect of everyone’s lives, creating a giant herd of unthinking conformist drones. You wear different clothes and have different hairstyles and you think that makes you different, yet all your minds are enslaved to the same club of masters and controllers. You think what they tell you to think and you do what they tell you to do while imagining yourselves to be progressive, thinking and enlightened.
From your position of relative comfort and safety you now condemn the evils of other lands and other times, while turning a blind eye to the injustices happening right in front of you. You tell yourself that had you lived in those other places, in those other times, you would have been among those who stood up against oppression and defended the down-trodden. But, that is a lie. You would have been right there with the rest of the flock of well-trained sheep, loudly demanding that the slaves be beaten, that the witches be burned, that the non-conformists and rebels be destroyed. How do I know this? Because that is exactly what you are doing today, today’s injustices and oppressions are fashionable and popular, and those who resist them, you tell yourselves, are just malcontents and freaks, people whose rights don’t matter, people who deserve to be crushed under the boot of authority, isn’t that right? You bunch of spineless unthinking hypocrites! Look in the mirror! Take a look at what you imagine to be righteous and kind – you are the devil’s plaything. The crowds of thousands wildly applauding the speeches of Adolf Hitler – that was YOU. The mob demanding that Jesus Christ be nailed to the cross – that was YOU. The white invaders who celebrated the whole-sale slaughter of those ‘Godless Redskins’ – that was YOU. The throngs filling the Coliseum applauding as Christians were fed to the lions – that was YOU.
And your ignorance is not because the truth is not available to you, there’s been radicals preaching it for thousands of years. No, you are ignorant because you shun the truth with all your heart and soul. You close your eyes and run away when a hint of reality lands in front of you. You condemn as extremists and fringe cooks those who try to show you the chains you wear, because you don’t want to be free, you don’t even want to be human. Responsibility and reality scare the hell out of you so you cling tightly to your own enslavement and lash out at any who seeks to free you from it, when someone opens the door to your cage you cower back in the corner and yell “Close it! Close it!!”.Well some of us are finished with trying to save you, we’ve wasted enough effort trying to convince you that you should be free, all you ever do is spout back what your masters have taught you, that being free only leads to chaos and destruction, while being obedient and subservient leads to peace and prosperity.
There are none so blind as those who will not see, and you, you nation of sheep, would rather die than see the truth..." The Burning Plattform, March 9, 2016:***Pictorial Essay: Message to the Voting Cattle***

"...Draghi’s done. This hole is too deep for him to climb out of."
Gold and silver rocketed higher today after the ECB pulled out the bazooka loaded with some unconventional weapons, largely designed to benefit the European Banks. Never have so many suffered so much for such an unworthy few. There was little real activity in The Bucket Shop. Now at least we know why the silly whacking of gold was the thing to do the past couple days. They knew it would run when Draghi dropped the hammer, and did not want it to take out key overhead resistance with a lot of momentum. They 'have to control the price of gold, manage it.' Because otherwise it might tell the truth. Have a pleasant evening.-Jesse
So much for the "whatever it takes" nonsense. The pop that the markets got when Draghi stepped to the microphone to announce the newest ECB meeting lasted about a half-hour and basically all of it is now gone. Why? Because the Euro is strengthening, which is of course exactly the opposite of the predictions (and desires) of the ECB. The reason? His "bazooka" was in fact a rusty chainsaw and went right up the chute of Europe -- running. Good luck folks. -K.Denninger We’re repeating the same crazy thing that nearly brought down the system back in 2008—paying people to borrow money. The primary difference is that, this time around, the bubble is much bigger. Back then, the subprime bubble was “only” $1.3 trillion. Today, conservative estimates show that there’s over $7 trillion in negative rate bonds. What could possibly go wrong? German bank that almost failed now being paid to borrow money

************** Sell everything whose value only exists as a result of confidence in central bank(ster)s. (By the time Ferdinand Pecora, slight, soft-spoken son of Italian immigrants, got through with the bankers, Senator Burton Wheeler of Montana was likening them to Al Capone and the public referred to them as “banksters,” rhyming with gangsters.)

WHO releases country estimates on air pollution exposure and health impact New interactive maps highlight areas within countries that exceed WHO air quality limits 27 September 2016 | GENEVA - A new WHO air quality model confirms that 92% of the world’s population lives in places where air quality levels exceed WHO limits*. Information is presented via interactive maps, highlighting areas within countries that exceed WHO limits. "The new WHO model shows countries where the air pollution danger spots are, and provides a baseline for monitoring progress in combatting it," says Dr Flavia Bustreo, Assistant Director General at WHO. It also represents the most detailed outdoor (or ambient) air pollution-related health data, by country, ever reported by WHO. The model is based on data derived from satellite measurements, air transport models and ground station monitors for more than 3000 locations, both rural and urban. It was developed by WHO in collaboration with the University of Bath, United Kingdom. Air pollution’s toll on human healthSome 3 million deaths a year are linked to exposure to outdoor air pollution. Indoor air pollution can be just as deadly. In 2012, an estimated 6.5 million deaths (11.6% of all global deaths) were associated with indoor and outdoor air pollution together. Nearly 90% of air-pollution-related deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, with nearly 2 out of 3 occurring in WHO’s South-East Asia and Western Pacific regions. Ninety-four per cent are due to noncommunicable diseases – notably cardiovascular diseases, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer. Air pollution also increases the risks for acute respiratory infections. "Air pollution continues take a toll on the health of the most vulnerable populations – women, children and the older adults," adds Dr Bustreo. "For people to be healthy, they must breathe clean air from their first breath to their last." Major sources of air pollution include inefficient modes of transport, household fuel and waste burning, coal-fired power plants, and industrial activities. However, not all air pollution originates from human activity. For example, air quality can also be influenced by dust storms, particularly in regions close to deserts. Improved air pollution dataThe model has carefully calibrated data from satellite and ground stations to maximize reliability. National air pollution exposures were analysed against population and air pollution levels at a grid resolution of about 10 km x 10 km. "This new model is a big step forward towards even more confident estimates of the huge global burden of more than 6 million deaths – 1 in 9 of total global deaths – from exposure to indoor and outdoor air pollution," said Dr Maria Neira, WHO Director, Department of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health. "More and more cities are monitoring air pollution now, satellite data is more comprehensive, and we are getting better at refining the related health estimates." Interactive mapsThe interactive maps provide information on population-weighted exposure to particulate matter of an aerodynamic diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres (PM2.5) for all countries. The map also indicates data on monitoring stations for PM10 and PM2.5 values for about 3000 cities and towns. "Fast action to tackle air pollution can’t come soon enough," adds Dr Neira. "Solutions exist with sustainable transport in cities, solid waste management, access to clean household fuels and cook-stoves, as well as renewable energies and industrial emissions reductions." Notes for editors:In September 2015, world leaders set a target within the Sustainable Development Goals of substantially reducing the number of deaths and illnesses from air pollution by 2030. In May 2016, WHO approved a new "road map" for accelerated action on air pollution and its causes. The roadmap calls upon the health sector to increase monitoring of air pollution locally, assess the health impacts, and to assume a greater leadership role in national policies that affect air pollution. * WHO Ambient Air Quality GuidelinesWHO air quality model confirms that 92% of the world’s population lives in places where air quality levels exceed “WHO’s Ambient Air quality guidelines” for annual mean of particulate matter with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres (PM2.5). WHO guideline limits for annual mean of PM2.5 are 10 μg/m3 annual mean.PM2.5 includes pollutants such as sulfate, nitrates and black carbon, which penetrate deep into the lungs and in the cardiovascular system, posing the greatest risks to human health. BreatheLife air pollution campaignThis fall WHO is rolling out BreatheLife, a global communications campaign to increase public awareness of air pollution as a major health and climate risk. BreatheLife is led by WHO in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)-hosted Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-lived Climate Pollutants. The campaign stresses both the practical policy measures that cities can implement (such as better housing, transport, waste, and energy systems) and measures people can take as communities or individuals (for example, to stop waste burning, promote green spaces and walking/cycling) to improve our air. more about Breathe Life 2030 here***Over 92% of World Population Lives in Areas With Increased Air PollutionOn August 8, 2016, we will have used as much from nature as our planet can renew in the whole year. We use more ecological resources and services than nature can regenerate through overfishing, overharvesting forests and emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than forests can sequester. Earth Overshoot Day, falling on 8 August this year, marks the date when humanity’s annual demand on nature exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. This is possible because we emit more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than our oceans and forests can absorb, and we deplete fisheries and harvest forests more quickly than they can reproduce and regrow. Carbon emissions are the fastest growing contributor to ecological overshoot, with the carbon Footprint now making up 60% of humanity’s demand on nature, which we call its Ecological Footprint. If we adhere to the goals set by the Paris climate agreement adopted by nearly 200 countries in December 2015, the carbon Footprint will need to gradually fall to zero by 2050. This calls for a new way of living on our one planet. “Such a new way of living comes with many advantages, and making it happen takes effort,” says Mathis Wackernagel, co-founder and CEO of Global Footprint Network. “The good news is that it is possible with current technology, and financially advantageous with overall benefits exceeding costs. It will stimulate emerging sectors like renewable energy, while reducing risks and costs associated with the impact of climate change on inadequate infrastructure. The only resource we still need more of is political will.” Fortunately, some countries are embracing the challenge. For instance, Costa Rica generated 97 percent of its electricity from renewable sources during the first three months of 2016. Portugal, Germany and Britain also demonstrated groundbreaking levels of renewable energy capability this year, when 100% of their electricity demand was met by renewables for several minutes or, in the case of Portugal, for several days. In China, meanwhile, the government has outlined a plan to reduce its citizens’ meat consumption by 50%, which it calculates will lower the carbon dioxide equivalent emissions from China’s livestock industry by 1 billion tonnes by 2030. Simultaneously, as individuals, each of us has the power to act for change in our daily lives. Building on the momentum of the historic Paris agreement, Global Footprint Network and its 25 Earth Overshoot Day partners launched a public engagement campaign with a view to highlighting the significance of resource security in a sustainable world where people and planet thrive.

They're Coming For Your Cash

All about The War On Cash
Your Money In The Bank Will Be Gone For anyone who has money in the bank today, it is virtually guaranteed that in the next 5-7 years either the bank will be gone or the money will be worthless, or probably both. Governments and Central Banks are now supreme experts in the total destruction of your money. They are constantly adding new methods so let’s just look at a few of them: *Zero or Negative interest rates – Over time, together with bank charges, your money will slowly be confiscated. *Bail-ins – No one will bail you out. Instead the insolvent banks will take your money to save the bank. *Ban cash – Within a few years, cash will be virtually banned in many countries. So you will not see your money again and the bank and the government will tell you what you can do with it. *Forced savings in government bonds – Bankrupt governments will force you to invest in bonds for 30 years or longer. The bonds will be worthless at maturity. *Money Printing – Finally if the money isn’t already gone, governments will totally destroy it by printing so much that it will become worthless.
The world is now starting the final phase of the failed experiment in creating wealth and prosperity for a select few and massive debt and misery for the masses. It all started with the creation of the Fed in 1913. This led to a global credit creation and money printing extravaganza of a magnitude that the world has never seen before. We have now reached the point when it makes no difference who becomes US president or what the Fed or the IMF will do. No, now we are at the point that von Mises so succinctly defined: “There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved.” The latter is guaranteed – Only Gold will protect you. -Egon von Greyerz

A closer look at gold miners ETFs and how the levered funds are in control...PDF***Under the Hood: What’s in Your Index?
Bullion Star today has posted an interesting "infographic" about exchange-traded gold funds and its main point seems to be to remind investors that when they buy shares in gold ETFs, they are facilitating the fractional-reserve gold banking system -- that is, facilitating the artificial inflation of the gold supply, making gold seem more plentiful than it is and thus undermining the gold price.
Gold-backed Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) have grown strongly in scale and popularity over the last decade and their combined gold holdings now surpass all but the largest central bank gold reserve holdings. However, its important to understand the mechanics of these gold-backed ETF investment vehicles and to appreciate what they can and can't provide to gold investors. This infographic takes you on a tour of gold-backed ETFs and illustrates insights into how these products really work, including the following: ◾The contemporary gold holdings of the world's largest gold-backed ETF platforms ◾Why holders of gold ETFs are holders of units / shares, not gold holders ◾The characteristics and common objectives of gold-backed ETFs ◾How the world's largest gold ETFs support and perpetuate the opaque practices of the London Gold Market ◾The secretive vault network within which many large gold-backed ETFs allocate and store their gold in ◾How the amount of gold represented by an ETF unit erodes over time ◾The summary mechanics and infrastructure of many of these gold ETF vehicles.

***The super rich are preparing for the end of the world
5 shocking facts about extreme global inequality
1.Just eight men own the same wealth as the 3.6 billion people who make up the poorest half of humanity. None of them has earned his fortune through talent or hard work, but by inheritance or accumulation through industries which are prone to corruption and cronyism. 2.Seven out of 10 people live in a country that has seen a rise in inequality in the last 30 years. 3.The richest are accumulating wealth at such an astonishing rate that the world could see its first trillionaire in just 25 years. So, you would need to spend $1 million every day for 2738 years to spend $1 trillion.
4.Extreme inequality across the globe is having a tremendous impact on women’s lives. Employed women, who face high levels of discrimination in the work place, and take on a disproportionate amount of unpaid care work often find themselves at the bottom of the pile. On current trends, it will take 170 years for women to be paid the same as men. 5.Corporate tax dodging costs poor countries at least $100 billion every year. This is enough money to provide an education for the 124 million children who aren’t in school and prevent the deaths of at least six million children thanks to health care services.
